Wildfire insurance

Most home insurance policies cover damage from wildfires. For businesses, wildfires are fully covered for property and inventory damages in most insurance policies. The same goes for car and company car insurance.

Broad weather insurance

Since 2010, the broad weather insurance (in Dutch: brede weersverzekering) has been available. Before 2010, agricultural damage from weather-related events was compensated by the government. With the introduction of the broad weather insurance, agricultural open field cultivation companies can get insurance for extreme weather-related damages. The broad weather insurance policy offers coverage against rain, droughts, frost, snow, hail, and (wild)fire by lighting damages. The insurance uses parametric triggers to determine the payout. Wildfires triggered by causes other than lightning strikes are not covered. This conflicts as previously mentioned most of the Dutch wildfires are caused by human triggers.

A recent study by the University of Utrecht shows that Disasters and Serious Accidents (Compensation) Act (WTS) is unclear about its coverage against non-flood related disasters, including wildfires.
