Trends & projections for storm
There is still considerable uncertainty about how climate change will affect storm winds in the future. Climate models present varying scenarios: some predict that storm tracks may shift and that storms could become more intense, while other models suggest little change in average wind strength. This uncertainty makes it difficult to make precise statements about the future frequency and intensity of storms.
Nevertheless, the societal impacts could increase even if storm strength remains the same. A growing population in urban and coastal areas, combined with expanded infrastructure, could significantly raise the total economic damage caused by storms. In addition, shifts in seasonal patterns due to climate change may increase the risk of damaging gusts outside the traditional storm season, posing a greater threat to both infrastructure and communities.
