National Water and Flood Information System
The National Water and Flood Information System (LIWO) provides data on river and coastal water levels and flood risks in the Netherlands. It is primarily designed for water authorities, safety regions, (local) governments, insurers, and researchers.
What does the portal offer?
The portal provides interactive maps showing real-time measurements of river discharges and water levels at hundreds of gauging stations, live rainfall radar, forecasted water levels for major rivers and the coast, flood threat classifications and delineations of dike-ring areas. You can zoom down from national to municipal scale, toggle layers on and off, download time-series tables or charts for any station, and subscribe to alerts for specific water-level thresholds in your area.
Who developed the portal?
This system is built and maintained by Rijkswaterstaat’s water service in cooperation with the Dutch water boards, regional safety authorities and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
