Policies & regulations for tornadoes

There does not appear to be a separate Dutch policy framework or dedicated regulatory regime specifically for tornadoes. In practice, tornado risk is addressed through broader systems for extreme weather, emergency management, and building safety. Emergency response falls under the responsibilities of the safety regions as set out in the Safety Regions Act (in Dutch: Wet veiligheidsregio’s). Building safety is covered by the Environment Buildings Decree, which sets general rules for buildings rather than a tornado-specific design standard. Tornadoes are therefore treated administratively as part of broader severe weather and crisis response arrangements rather than as a distinct hazard with its own national policy instrument.
